The Oscar nominated short LIVE ACTION and ANIMATED films, presented as two feature-length programs.

Enjoy on the big screen the short films nominated for the Academy Awards from Best Live Action Short, and Best Animated Short, screening from February 22 before the big day of the Oscars ceremony on March 4.

The slate of acclaimed films includes Australia’s own THE ELEVEN O’CLOCK, a hilarious comedy of a therapy patient who believes himself to be a psychiatrist starring Josh Lawson and Damon Herriman, as well as the gleeful animated telling of Roald Dahl’s REVOLTING RHYMES, featuring an all-star voice cast including Dominic West, Tamsin Grieg and Rob Brydon, a moving and comical adventure from the animation team at Pixar, LOU, and DEAR BASKETBALL, a collaboration between Disney animator Glen Keane, composer John Williams, and NBA star Kobe Bryant.

The Animation program will also include three extra, highly commended, Oscar shortlisted films.

    In 1955, a Mississippi preacher tries to protect his 14-year-old nephew, Emmett Till from two racist killers out for blood. Based on true events.

    Directed by Derin Seale. Australia, 13 minutes.
    The delusional patient of a psychiatrist believes he is actually the psychiatrist. As they each attempt to treat each other the session gets out of control. Starring Josh Lawson and Damon Herriman.

    Directed by Chris Overton. UK, 20 minutes.
    Centres around a profoundly deaf four year old girl named Libby who is born into a middle class family and lives in a world of silence until a caring social worker teaches her the gift of communication.

    Directed by Katja Benrath. Germany/Kenya, 23 minutes.
    For almost a decade Kenya has been targeted by terrorist attacks of the Al-Shabaab, fostering an atmosphere of anxiety and mistrust between Muslims and Christians. Until in December 2015, Muslim bus passengers showed that solidarity can prevail.

    In a deserted, opulent house, a couple of amphibians explore their surroundings and follow their primal instincts.

    Directed by Dave Mullins. USA, 7 minutes.
    When a toy-stealing bully ruins recess for a playground full of kids, only one thing stands in his way: the “Lost and Found” box.

    Directed by Max Porter and Ru Kuwahata. France, 6 minutes.
    How my father taught me how to pack a bag.

    REVOLTING RHYMES. Directed by Jakob Schuh and Jan Lachauer. UK, 29 minutes.
    Interweaves Roald Dahl’s retellings of classic fairy tales with playful twists and surprising endings. The all-star voice cast comprises of Dominic West, David Walliams, Rob Brydon, Tamsin Greig, Bertie Carvel, Rose Leslie, Bel Powley, Gemma Chan and Isaac Hempstead Wright.

    PLUS: while not nominated for the Animated Short Film Academy Award, the program will also include the shortlisted animated titles 'LOST PROPERTY OFFICE', 'WEEDS' and 'ACHOO'.
